A Visit to Lux

November 6, 2006 Posted by Chris Tingom Filed under Coffee

I visited Lux Coffee Bar last Thursday and enjoyed my visit. Here’s a photo of my latte, and a friends. They’ve done some rearranging with the tables and chairs, and it’s a bit better than it used to be. Still, I think much more could be done with the place. People give Lux too much credit than it deserves in my opinion. I always feel like I’m more of an observer and out of place than a customer. I’m not sure why. Or maybe it’s the other way around, maybe Lux doesn’t have any coffee shops that are like it.

i totally agree. lux has made some changes to the interior which help but i still feel very uncomfortable in there. since i love the coffee i just always take mine with me and get the heck out of there. sitting outside is a better option when the weather is fine…but still, i’m not a fan of feeling ‘onstage’ which i feel at lux and la grande orange.

Interesting points……I actually love Lux! It reminds me of the Coffee Houses I used to go to in Milwaukee, WI. It’s the spot I would take friends too. I’ve never felt out of place there. I think that certain places are better fits than others. That’s the awesome thing though…..you can go where you feel comfortable. Kinda like “Cheers”. Everybody wants to be a “Norm” somewhere. Anyways……..back to work I go.

Oh I forgot to mention: More seating outdoors + they finally put up some sun shades.

What’s this? Good latte art in a cup on a saucer with a spoon? In the SW? Score! Is the espresso good?

In a cappa it’s passable. I used to reccomend this place to “coffee people” when they came into town, but they were like, “what the?” so I stopped. I have to say it’s better than most, sadly.

Shoot me an email Jason and I’ll give you the scoop.

Try talking to Jeff and Tara (new owners) sometime and spend a few minutes there mingling, almost everyone is friendly… I can understand these comments about the previous owners. How many places roast their own beans in-house here in Phoenix? My opinion - some of the best espresso around, very unique rich and smooth.
